Reclaimed Jerusalem Limestone

It is one of the oldest cities on earth. Between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea, Jerusalem has been a prominent location since the 4th millennium BCE. Jerusalem has been twice destroyed and repeatedly besieged, attacked, captured and recaptured. One constant has weaved itself into the fabric and history of Jerusalem throughout the millennia since 4000 BC; building material. specifically Jerusalem Limestone. Since antiquity, Jerusalem limestone has been quarried for all every conceivable building need. It’s everywhere in Israel and Jerusalem. The colors range from the familiar grays and whites to ochers and red rose. The stone is strong and long lasting. Those with a love for ancient materials have a passion for reclaimed Jerusalem limestone. While France was in its infancy, Jerusalem was already a city of antiquity and early limestone slabs had already been buried by time. Limestone is reclaimed from ancient sidewalks and structures for our customers who want authentic materials from the oldest source available.
Antique Jerusalem Limestone provides unmatched old-world building material that adds an unmistakable authenticity and historicity to stone flooring in modern homes.
- Limestone Flooring
Aged and Hand Scraped Limestone From France & Israel
Compared to reclaimed stone that gives the customer limited input over the dimensions, colorations and finishes, our new limestone flooring choices from France and Israel give the interior designer and homeowner maximum control of the final product appearance. From a colorful or neutral color scheme, to a running bond, diamond, or pre-cut pattern, or a rectangular, hexagonal, octagonal or inlay shaped stone, to a smooth diamond brushed or heavily pitted, simulated antique surface, the choices in styles, colors and textures for new limestone floors is limited only by your imagination. Our customers current favorite limestone products are rather larger rectangles with a beautiful hand-scraped and aged surface laid in a running bond that provides a strong floor pattern with a classic patina. We offer these French limestone and Jerusalem limestone slabs in colors
ranging from dark gray and brown to sand, yellow and white. These new limestone products can either have a porous or dense surface for a wide range of applications. Also popular are custom cut stones in either large inlay patterns or smaller octagons or hexagons. Combining several colors in one lot plus a rustic finish will create a truly unique floor which can only be found in your project.Complement your limestone floor with matching fireplaces, hearths, sinks, countertops or wall veneers. Vintage Elements offers it all.
- Reclaimed Antique Stone
Reclaimed Antique Jerusalem Limestone & French Limestone for Truly Dramatic Interior Designs

Most reclaimed antique limestone from France and Israel comes in a large format, destining these slabs for larger rooms of scale-often matched by open spaces and high ceilings.Their past use in sidewalks, basement floors and foundation stone shows us that reclaimed limestone is extremely durable and can be used around the whole house without any limitations. Since we don’t have any control over the size of the slabs and only some control over coloration , reclaimed limestone should be carefully selected before purchasing. It is not uncommon to find stark variations in colorations in a single lot.
The use of surface finishes – from waxes to oils –throughout past decades and centuries may have altered the surface of the material as well. Where an antique blond Barr stone may have an almost reddish-brown looking surface from extensive use of floor waxes, another blond Barr floor might have retained its original blond surface color and another one turned into a grayish tone. To combine such different surfaces in an interior design concept it needs the homeowners’ appreciation for historic floors and the willingness to accept these unpredictable properties. Paint, grease and chemical spots show the history of the stone and are not blemishes or quality issues.
Where reclaimed French limestone flooring is rather mono-colored (Barr stone – gray or sand) or muted colored (Dalle de Bourgogne, Dalle de Montpelier – gray mixed with browns and reds), reclaimed Jerusalem limestone stands out with its strong color variegation, ranging from single colored gray, sand or brown stones to red and yellowed marbled slabs mixed with white, pink and sand hues. For the more colorful stones a good rule of thumb is to let the floor determine the direction of the interior design. The more muted and mono colored stones create a neutral canvass that can be filled with matching furniture, rugs and accessories. - Reclaimed Antique Stone Flooring
